A closed month is a month that agrees with the bank, the card accounts, and the bills you already know about. Categories are dull on purpose. You should be able to see what came in, what went out, and what is still owed without a tour of someone else's software.

Statements and reports come after that match, not before it. A pretty report on an open month is a story. A plain report on a closed month is something you can hand to a lender or use to decide a purchase.
