The rows on a Harris County sale

Read the rows on a Harris County sale

State sales tax is 6.25 percent. The city row is 1 percent. The transit row is 1 percent. Together that is 8.25 percent inside Harris County. Those figures are the published rows, not a quote for your invoice, and they are written here without a dollar sign because the rate is a percent.

Fort Bend can show a different local row. A job across the county line is not the same filing as a job inside Houston. The Comptroller lookup is where an address gets checked before the return is filed. Do not guess from a zip code you remember.

Dates that read the books

Read Dates that read the books

The April property list and the May franchise report both want numbers that match the books. If the months are open, those filings become a second cleanup. Closed months make them a reading, not a rescue.

The Gulf's storm window runs from June into November, and a shop along the bayous already keeps that stretch marked for repairs and closures. The sales tax filing does not move because a storm might. The books from the weeks you were closed still have to be told honestly.

What we will not compute

Read what we will not compute

An invoice total is not computed in this note, and a filing is not sent from it. The rows people mix up are written out, and the habit is to check the address before any of them is trusted. If you want the monthly books kept so the filing is a reading of work already done, that is the practice.

School calendars and the sales tax year are pulled apart on the school and sales page. They feel related because both mark the fall, and they are not the same deadline.

Write down the address you actually sell from, not the address on an old card. A job in one county and a shop in another can both be true in the same week. The filing follows the place of the sale, and the books should show which deposits belong where. If you are unsure, say so. Guessing a row to look sure of yourself is how a small difference becomes a notice.

Send the address question

Say the county, the kind of sale, and which filing you are unsure about.
