CPA and Bookkeeping Houston AlternativeWhat a large firm costs you
A large firm can cover a narrow question, and the price you feel is how many people touch the month.
Count the handoffs
How a month moves
Read how a month moves
You send the bank activity. Someone codes it. Someone else reviews it. A third person answers your question a week later without the first two in the room. Each step can be competent. The total is a month you do not recognize and a question that takes three calls.
The bill you see is the fee. The bill you feel is the afternoon you spent explaining a vendor that was already explained in May. That second bill never shows up on an invoice.

If a bank has told you the cover must carry a signature you cannot get from a small practice, a large firm is the right place for that cover. The monthly books can still live somewhere the handoff is one person. Splitting those two jobs is allowed. Pretending they are the same job is how July goes quiet.
Game weekends, when the city is talking about a Saturday match, are a silly time to discover that your reviewer is out and the backup has not opened your books. Ask in the first week who the backup is.
What to ask before you stay

Ask how many people will touch a normal month. Ask who answers in July. Ask whether the person who closes the month is allowed to talk about the return. Write the answers down. If they are vague, the vagueness is the product.
The comparison of all three shapes is on the shapes page.
A useful test is a question you already know the answer to, about a vendor you explained last quarter. If the reply asks you to explain it again, you are paying the handoff. You can keep a firm for a cover that must be signed and move the monthly close somewhere the explanation sticks. Those are two purchases. Naming them separately is how the fee starts to make sense. If the vendor test fails once, you do not need a second test to see that the handoff is the product.
